Foundations artist Joshua Newth will display his work Feb. 3-28 with an opening reception from 5-7 p.m. Feb. 7 in Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus Art Gallery.
Newth is an instructor and interim Foundations coordinator in the Department of Art and Design at Southeast Missouri State University. His work combines traditional techniques such as drawing and painting with contemporary topics such as pollution and waste culture.
“The month of February in the River Campus Art Gallery has come to be known as our “Faculty Showcase,” and each year a different faculty member is given the opportunity to put on an exhibition of their choosing,” said Justin Miller, associate professor and exhibitions coordinator. “I think this is always a fun show for both students and the community to see what our faculty create. This year we are excited to have Joshua’s paintings, drawings and installations on display.”
He has exhibited nationally at the Toledo Museum of Art, Louisiana State University, Tampa Museum of Art, and Hockaday Museum. Newth’s paintings and drawings express an affinity for nature and an exploration of the idea of beauty in the ordinary.
The River Campus Art Gallery is located on the first floor of the historic Seminary Building in Room 106.
River Campus Art Gallery hours are 1-4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1-7 p.m. on First Fridays. All gallery exhibitions, events and talks are free and open to the public. For more information, contact Justin Miller at firstname.lastname@example.org or (573) 651-2865
