“Juror’s Showcase: Jeff Brown” will be on display in Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus Art Gallery March 3-25 with an opening reception from 5-7 p.m. March 6.

Brown is serving as the juror for the Annual Juried Student Exhibition” April 3-19 in the Rosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Museum at the River Campus. He is an associate professor of art at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana, where he teaches ceramics. His artwork primarily uses clay and explores both functional pottery and sculptural forms.

Each year, faculty members from the Department of Art and Design invite an artist from outside the community to juror the annual student exhibition and to display their own personal artwork, said Justin Henry Miller, assistant professor and exhibitions coordinator.

“This year, Benjie Heu, professor of ceramics at Southeast, invited Jeff Brown, a longtime friend and fellow ceramicist,” he said. “Brown’s experience with ceramics, sculpture and furniture promises for a multifaceted exhibition.”

Brown also builds contemporary furniture and sculpture, and his work has been exhibited in regional, national and international exhibitions.

He teaches all levels of ceramics and art appreciation. He also codirects the Ameen Art Gallery and is co-advisor for the University Ceramics Club. Prior to teaching at Nicholls, Brown worked at the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, as a program assistant and studio manager.

The River Campus Art Gallery is located on the first floor of the historic Seminary Building in Room 106. River Campus Art Gallery hours are 1-4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1-7 p.m. on First Fridays. All gallery exhibitions, events and talks are free and open to the public.
