Nilsen Visiting Writer Series Welcomes Short Story Author to Southeast

Author Ron A. Austin will perform a public reading of his work on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at Southeast Missouri State University as part of the Dorothy and Wedel Nilsen Visiting Writers Series.

The event, sponsored by the Southeast Missouri State University Press, is scheduled for 7-8 p.m. in Glenn Auditorium of Robert A. Dempster Hall, and is free and open to the public.

A book signing will follow the reading, and books will be available for purchase at the event.

The Nilsen Visiting Writer Program brings a successful writer to campus each semester to talk with students about the crafts of writing and editing.

Austin is the author of the story collection “Avery Colt Is a Snake, a Thief, a Liar.” He has served as an editor for “december” and “River Styx” literary magazines and is a 2016 Regional Arts Commission Fellow. His stories have been published in multiple journals, including “Pleaides,” “Story Quarterly,” “Ninth Letter,” “Black Warrior Review,” “Midwestern Gothic” and “Juked.”

He earned a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. He has taught creative writing at the Pierre Laclede Honors College. He currently lives in St. Louis with his wife and son.
