Southeast Missouri State University’s Holland School of Visual and Performing Arts, Department of Theatre and Dance, invites community members of all ages to audition for two of its upcoming plays Aug. 21 at River Campus.
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., July 23, 2007 — Southeast Missouri State University’s Holland School of Visual and Performing Arts, Department of Theatre and Dance, invites community members of all ages to audition for two of its upcoming plays, “Big River” and “Coyote Ugly” at 6 p.m. Aug. 21 at River Campus.
“Big River,” the hugely popular Broadway musical, adapted from the novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, by Mark Twain, is a colorful and delightful tale of adventure and self-discovery as Huck escapes from a drunken and abusive father, meets up with Jim, a runaway slave, and they travel together on a raft down the beloved Mississippi River. “Big River” will run Oct. 24-28 in the Bedell Performance Hall.
For “Big River,” those auditioning are asked to prepare one complete verse of a character driven song (folk, country or gospel/spiritual). Those auditioning are asked to bring their music in the correct key for the accompanist as well as a backup song. Roles for various ages and diversity are needed.
Not the movie, but rather the renowned dark comedy by Lynn Siefert, “Coyote Ugly,” will stun audiences with its insightful and sometimes disturbing look into the squalid life of a nearly incestuous family, trapped in a dilapidated shack in the desert southwest. “Coyote Ugly” will run in the Rust Flexible Theatre from Nov. 28-Dec. 2.
Those auditioning for “Coyote Ugly” are asked to prepare a 60- to 90-second monologue from a contemporary American play. Roles for various ages are available.
The Department of Theatre and Dance would like to invite community members of all ages and ethnic backgrounds to audition for both of these upcoming performances. Those auditioning should dress appropriately for a professional audition and bring an additional set of clothing, appropriate for movement. Please bring resumes and headshots, if available. Callbacks for both auditions will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22 and Thursday, Aug. 23.
