Open auditions for Southeast Missouri State University’s Department of Music production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s “H.M.S. Pinafore” will be held Tuesday, Aug. 24.
In this classic comedy, W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan unravel a tangled web of romance and social class in one of their most popular shows, filled with wonderful tunes and witty lyrics — all with the help of a large and outgoing chorus.
Auditions are open to all Southeast students, regardless of major, and to community members 16 years and older, and will be held from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall at Southeast’s River Campus.
Those auditioning must prepare a song in English in the preferred styles of golden age musical theatre, art song, operetta or opera, and must provide printed sheet music.
A monologue is not required, and an accompanist will be provided. Performers may be required to wear a face covering for the audition.
Possible callbacks will be held from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 26 in Bedell Performance Hall.
