CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Aug. 5, 2009 — Szandra Pal of Budapest, Hungary, and a senior at Southeast Missouri State University, was recently named undergraduate employee of the month for July in the Department of Recreation Services.
Pal double majors in exercise science and German and is currently a lifeguard in the Student Aquatic Center. She has been an employee at the department for one year and will continue working for Recreation Services this year.
Chad Sierman, assistant director for Aquatics, stated, “She has gone above and beyond her duties within the past month. She taught swim lessons for us when we were in a bind and is always helping with the facility issues.”
“She has also come in on her own time and swims with the campers from Redhawks Kids Camp as well,” added Sierman.
Pal is a current member of the varsity track and field team at Southeast and recently won the July Capaha Classic 5K in Cape Girardeau. Her career aspirations are to possibly play professional basketball in Europe and work in an athletics or recreation environment.
The Recreation Services Employee of the Month award is the highest honor given to the Department of Recreational Services student employees for going “above and beyond” the normal call of duty to assist the program, patrons and users of Southeast’s recreational facilities.
