CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Nov. 26, 2012 – The Southeast Missouri State University Percussion Ensemble will present its fifth annual “Family Holiday Concert” at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, in the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall at Southeast’s River Campus. The concert is geared toward families with young children and will last approximately 45 minutes. A $1 donation is suggested for admission for those ages 6 and up, and “play-along” egg shakers will be available for $3 each. In addition to live festive holiday tunes performed by the ensemble, slide shows from classic children’s books such as “Frosty the Snowman,” “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” and “Polar Express” will be displayed.
The ensemble, under the direction of Shane Mizicko, assistant professor of music, will be joined by wind players from the Southeast Wind Symphony and Southeast voice faculty member Timothy Schmidt in an amusing and colorful rendition of the classic, “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.” Also joining the ensemble will be dancers from Dance Extensions dance studio in excerpts from the holiday classic, “The Nutcracker.”
Coloring will be available before the performance, and complimentary milk and cookies will be served at the conclusion of the performance.
The concert is free and open to the public.
