CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Nov. 3, 2006 — The Department of Recreation Services will host one of eight National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) Regional Flag Football Tournaments this weekend at the Intramural Sports Complex at Sprigg and Bertling.
Twelve teams from Florida, Texas, Louisiana, Minnesota and Missouri will compete for the Regional Tournament title and a $750 travel stipend for the national flag football championship held in Texas in January. Other schools hosting regional tournaments include Arizona State University, Ohio State University, Oklahoma State University and others.
“This is a great opportunity for the department to host this regional tournament. Only selected schools have the opportunity to host, and, with Southeast being selected, it’s a wonderful honor,” said Troy Vaughn, director of Recreation Services. “Many staff members have worked long and hard to make this a reality for this campus.”
This is the first time Southeast Missouri State University has hosted an Extramural Tournament. For more information, please contact James Wayne, tournament director, at (573) 986-7379.
