The National Society of Leadership and Success at Southeast is spearheading a campus-wide collection, Redhawks for Relief, starting today, Sept. 7, through Sept. 21 in cooperation with the Student Government Association and Alpha Phi to support Hurricane Harvey relief.
Items being collected include canned food, bottled water, feminine hygiene products and pet food. Cash donations also are being collected. Credit and debit card donations will be accepted; a minimum $3 donation is needed to process payment. Faculty, staff and students are asked to drop off donations in the University Center third floor lobby from noon to 5 p.m. Local community members may drop off donations at the Douglas C. Greene Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“The list of items we will be collecting is short, and we encourage people to donate money rather than supplies as the needs will change in the next two weeks, according to our contact at the collection center,” said Yasodh Jayathilake (YJ), president of the National Society of Leadership and Success. “People are now needing more supplies like tarps, nails, box fans, mosquito repellents and things of that sort, now that the water levels have dropped and people are focusing on fixing their houses.”
National Society of Leadership and Success Executive Board members plan to rent a truck and deliver the monetary donations and the items from the campus-wide collection to Tivoli, Texas, Sept. 23-24.
The Sigma Alpha Pi chapter of the National Society of Leadership and Success was founded at Southeast in 2016 and has 530 members.
