CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,
Aug. 3, 2006 – Campers from the Redhawks Kids Camp held this summer at Southeast Missouri State University donated 588 items of food to the Family Resource Center on Aug. 3.
“Adults have a great deal of influence on children, and it is our hope that through this community service activity, the Redhawks Kids Campers have influenced the adults of the Southeast community by showing the importance of giving to those who may be less fortunate,” said Troy Vaughn, director of Recreation Services at Southeast Missouri State University.
Campers were divided into three competitive groups: kindergarten to second-graders; third- to fifth-graders; and sixth- to eighth-graders. The groups collected canned goods from University employees at various buildings on campus every Friday throughout the summer. Community members also dropped off canned goods at the Student Recreation Center South.
Redhawks Kids Camp, “where a kid can be a kid,” is a recreational day camp for youths ages 5 to 13 (entering kindergarten through eighth grades in the fall) provided by the Department of Recreation Services at Southeast Missouri State University.
