Redhawks Kids Camp Food Drive Continues with Over 340 Items Collected

July 20, 2006 – Campers from the Redhawks Kids Camp started Session No. 6 today with over 340 canned food items already collected for their summer food drive.

“I have been impressed with the number of food items that the kids have collected thus far,” said Troy Vaughn, Director of Recreation Services. “It’s for a great cause!”

Campers have divided their efforts into three competitive groups:  Kindergarten to second-grade; third to fifth-grade; and sixth to eighth-grade groups have been in the process of collecting cans from various buildings on campus every Friday, in addition to the cans dropped off at the Student Recreation Center South by those in the community. The kindergarten to second-grade group currently leads with over 215 items collected, and with only a week left, they’re looking forward to the celebratory ice cream party during the final session to thank them for their efforts.

Non-perishable food items may be donated to the Student Recreation Center South (926 Broadway) or donators can call The Redhawks Kids Camp Headquarters at 651-2600 to arrange for pick-up.
