CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,
March 29, 2006 – Registration is now open for Redhawks Kids Camp (formerly Camp Capaha), a summer recreational day camp hosted by Recreational Sports at Southeast Missouri State University.
Redhawks Kids Camp, which will be held at the Student Recreation Center South Campus, provides fun-filled and active days for children ages 5 to 13 (or K-8th grade starting in the fall of 2006). Themes are associated with each session, and additional new options are available for 2006, including early drop-off, late pick-up and half-day sessions. All campers will have the opportunity to play and learn in a number of activities on and around the University campus in a safe and encouraging environment. Activities will include sports, crafts, swimming, educational activities, community service projects and outside play.
“Our goal is to focus on the recreational, fun aspects of camp and let the kids have fun and just be kids,” said Troy Vaughn, director of Recreational Sports.
Trained counselors for Redhawks Kids Camp will be Southeast students who are CPR-AED/First Aid certified and have passed background checks. Efforts are made to keep the camper/counselor ratio at a low 1:7 rate. Many counselors will be Southeast education majors.
The program is again expanding the sessions available to better serve the community. Eight sessions are scheduled, all from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Session I – June 12 – 16 Session II – June 19 – 23 Session III – June 26 – June 30 Session IV – July 3 -7 (no camp on July 4) Session V – July 10 – 14 Session VI – July 17 – 21 Session VII – July 24 – 28 Session VIII – July 31 – Aug. 4
The cost for attending Redhawks Kids Camp is $120 per week, which includes great programming, swimming (four days a week), an RKC backpack, morning and afternoon snacks, and a camp T-shirt. Campers should bring their lunch every day. All campers will receive a pedometer that will track walking distances during sessions and throughout the summertime.
Two Redhawks Kids Camp Open House Orientation sessions will be held at the Student Recreation Center South Campus on May 30 and June 7 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Parents or guardians only need to attend one session. Parents can get more information on the camp, check out the facilities, meet the staff, and even bring their potential campers by to play. Parents attending an orientation session will receive a $5 discount on their first session registration.
Registration brochures are now available at the operation centers in either the North or South Student Recreation Centers on the Southeast campus. Enrollment is limited, and based on a first-come, first-serve basis. A $20 deposit for each session, which is applied to the total cost of the session, is necessary to reserve a spot.
