CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,
June 19, 2009 – The Southeast Missouri State University Board of Regents today renamed the Center for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development to the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
The new name is in line with a reorganization plan bringing the Missouri Research Corporation, including the Southeast Innovation Center/Business Incubator, under the umbrella of the Donald L. Harrison College of Business. The new name, said Dr. Jane Stephens, Southeast provost, reflects the integration of academic programming, community outreach and training, and research and innovation leading to commercializable services, processes and products.
Stephens says the new name also contributes to the branding efforts of the University to promote economic development throughout its service region by encouraging entrepreneurial thinking and supporting new venture start-ups and emerging enterprise expansions.
Under this reorganization, the director of the Missouri Research Corporation reports to the chair of the Missouri Research Corporation Board of Directors, the executive director of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and has direct access to communicate and collaborate with the president on economic development projects. The executive director will report to the dean of the Harrison College of Business, Stephens said.
