Regents Hear Report on Contracts and Facilities Management Projects

Kathy Mangels, vice president for finance and administration, delivered a report on contracts and Facilities Management projects to the Board today.

She says no new contracts in excess of $100,000 have been issued since the Board’s last meeting.

Work on tunnels 51-55 near Group Housing continues and is set for completion in August. The University received an approximate $500,000 appropriation from the state for this project, which covers about a third of the total cost.

Repairs are underway by Premium Mechanical to the Kenneth and Jeanine Larson Dobbins River Campus Center chiller. Completion is expected in July.

Replacement of a 5KVA feeder line between Academic Hall and Grauel Building is substantially complete. Minor dirt work remains to be completed.

Mangels provided an update on new digital video boards being installed at the Southeast Softball Complex and Houck Field.  Final grading is being done around the board at the Softball Complex, and the University is working with a contractor on catwalk modifications at Houck Field. Work is expected to be completed this summer.

Two major projects at the Towers Complex are underway this summer, including fire alarm upgrades in Towers East, and elevator upgrades in Towers West and North.  KT Power has begun removing existing components of the Towers East fire alarm system. Work is expected to be complete in August. Work is in progress in the penthouse, elevators shafts and mechanical rooms as part of the Towers West and North elevator upgrades. Phase I is expected to be complete Aug. 1 with Phase II slated for completion by Dec. 1.

In addition, Facilities Management is cleaning and sealing the exterior envelope of the University Center, Rhodes Hall of Science and Magill Hall this summer.
