CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., July 1, 2015 — Southeast Missouri State University students may begin registering for 2015-2016 preferred, perimeter and evening parking permits beginning July 8 with a lottery system based on student seniority to determine distribution of the preferred decals.
Registration for 2015-2016 parking permits will open at 8 a.m. July 8. At that time, students may apply online at http://portal.semo.edu, or they may complete a paper application that is included in the University’s billing packet. The packet will be mailed to students on or about July 8. Completed paper applications will be accepted by mail or in person at the Cashier’s Office in Academic Hall.
Students should apply using only one method. Regardless of which method a student chooses when applying, students will be placed in the lottery and sorted according to student seniority. They also must pay their account balance by 4 p.m. Friday, July 31. Balances should be either paid in full, covered by guaranteed financial aid, or enroll in and make the first payment toward their Installment Payment Plan (IPP) for the fall 2015 semester. Payment may be made by mail; online, using a checking account through a secured system via My Southeast; or in person at the Cashier’s Office.
Registration for all parking permits will close at 4 p.m. July 31. Online registration for perimeter, evening only, and employee permits will re-open on Aug. 3 at 8 a.m. The preferred permit lottery will be conducted Aug. 10, during which the preferred decals will be assigned. Because distribution of the preferred decals is assigned using a lottery, the time at which a student applies does not affect the chances of getting preferred parking. It is important to apply and make appropriate payment before the lottery closes July 31.
Preferred parking decals will be assigned into these allotments:
- 55 percent will be distributed to students with 90 or more hours.
- 30 percent will go to students with 60 to 89 hours.
- 15 percent will be distributed to students with 30 to 59 hours.
Students applying for preferred permits who are not drawn in the lottery may choose to be placed on a waiting list. To be added to the preferred permit waiting list, a student must accept a perimeter parking permit. Students will be placed on the waiting list for their first choice lot based upon cumulative hours. Students on the waiting list will receive a perimeter decal and become eligible for preferred parking from the waiting list as space becomes available. Students who are not drawn in the lottery and who decline a perimeter parking permit will not be placed on a waiting list and will not be eligible for a preferred permit for the 2015-2016 academic year.
Two or more individuals who ride together and arrive and depart the campus at the same time may purchase a car pool permit. To purchase a car pool permit students should not apply for the preferred parking lottery or for perimeter parking. Requests for car pool permits should be made in person at the Parking Services office after Aug. 17. Each member of the car pool must be present at the time of application.
Commuter students can anticipate receiving their decals beginning Aug. 14. Resident students can pick up their decals at the Parking office, 1401 N. Sprigg Street in front of the Show Me Center, when they return to campus for the fall semester, or at the Student Recreation Center–North adjacent to the Show Me Center, during residence hall move-in on Thursday, Aug. 20.
Parking fees for the 2015-2016 year are:
- $180 for preferred decals.
- $130 for perimeter decals.
- $65 for evening only decals, which are valid only after 4 p.m.
- $235 for car pool permits.
- $65 for Motorcycle or Scooter without the purchase of a motor vehicle permit.
- $25 for Motorcycle or Scooter with the purchase of a motor vehicle permit.
