CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,
March 12, 2007 – Registration for fall 2007 semester classes at Southeast Missouri State University will open at 7 a.m. April 2.
Students will be able to sleep in an additional three hours this year since previous registration periods opened at 4 a.m.
The start time has been moved to 7 a.m. as a result of a Student Government resolution approved last week.
Adam Hanna, Southeast Student Government president, said Student Government requested the time change after the University recently converted to a new administrative database, SunGard Higher Education, which handles student information, including class registration. Under the University’s previous administrative database, the system was unable to process class registration before 4 a.m. due to nightly system backups, he said.
“This required students to register at a rather unconventional hour,” Hanna said.
The new system allows registration to begin at more convenient times within a certain range of times, he said. Therefore, Student Government requested that registration be moved from 4 to 7 a.m. in the interest of using the new technology to the best of its ability.
Priority registration for fall 2007 semester classes at Southeast will begin April 2 and run through 9 p.m. July 21, when registration will close for financial billing purposes. Registration for fall 2007 will reopen at 7 a.m. Aug. 3. Fall 2007 semester classes begin at Southeast on Aug. 20.
