CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,
Oct. 7, 2005 – The public is invited to attend “Gershwin and Friends,” a concert featuring internationally renowned Gershwin pianist, Jack Gibbons, at Academic Auditorium at 8 p.m. Oct. 21 in Academic Hall Auditorium.
Gibbons’ unique all-Gershwin programs bring together both show tunes and concert works, highlighting all facets of Gershwin’s genius. A public performer from the age of 10 and winner at age 20 of the Newport International Pianoforte Competition, Gibbons has been hailed as “the Gershwin expert’s Gershwin expert” by BBC Radio 4 and called “the Gershwin pianist of our time” by the BBC.
Gershwin biographer, Edward Jablonsky, says, “Jack Gibbons is able to reproduce Gershwin as Gershwin performed, in a remarkable recreation of Gershwin’s unique keyboard style. Hearing Jack Gibbons perform is like being at a Gershwin party, in a sense.”
In his concert at Academic Auditorium, Gibbons will be playing possible selections by Rachmaninoff, Debussy and Chopin, as well as his own first-time original compositions. Of course, Gibbons will also delight audiences playing his signature Gershwin selections with classic style. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to hear one of the most renowned modern pianists in this one-time-only concert.
Tickets are $10 and are available in advance by contacting the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri at (573) 334-9233. Tickets also will be available at the door.
