River Campus Art Gallery to Host ‘Louise Bodenheimer: Seashore Subjects’

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Oct. 5, 2010 – The River Campus Art Gallery at Southeast Missouri State University will present a collection of work “Louise Bodenheimer: Seashore Subjects” Oct. 25-Nov. 15.

A gallery reception is planned for 5-7 p.m. Nov. 5.

Bodenheiemer will present a lecture about this body of work from noon to 1 p.m. Nov. 3 in the John and Betty Glenn Convocation Center at the River Campus.

A short residency in Maine inspired this collection of delicate, beautiful illustrations of seashore subjects. Bodenheimer, area head of the Southeast Department of Art’s graphic design program, has a long-standing interest in marine and botanical subjects, and employs her elegant mark making and eye for color to capture the essence of these objects. Imagery is drawn from her personal collection of specimens, most gathered from the rocky shores of the Northeast and the sandy beaches of the Gulf of Mexico.

The River Campus Art Gallery is located on the first floor of the Seminary Building, Room 106. Normal gallery hours are 1-5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 1-7 p.m. on First Fridays. All gallery exhibitions, events and talks are free and open to the public. For more information, contact gallery coordinator Emily Booth at ebooth@semo.edu.
