The performance, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Oct. 5 in the Robert F. and Gertrude L. Shuck Music Recital Hall at Southeast’s River Campus, will feature members of the Department of Art, Department of Music and The Conservatory of Theatre and Dance. Many will be multi-media including film, art, music and movement.
The program features a wide range of literature from classics such as “An die Musik” by Schubert, and other songs by Victor Herbert, Charlie Chaplin, Jerome Kern, and more modern works by Jake Heggie. The collaboration will also include a scene from “Cabaret” by Kandor and Ebb, as well as highlights from “Convergentes,” a recent installation of Mexican art works.
Organizer, Christopher Goeke, Department of Music, observed, “We wanted to bring together the arts in ways that are perhaps a little unusual. In doing so we take a moment to think about the place of art in our daily lives and also how and why we work in the arts. In this process, we form an image of a moment, and so, ‘In Essence,’ reveals a little bit of who we are.”
Goeke added, “I have really enjoyed this work and have grown artistically because I have been able to interact with these colleagues.”
Faculty participating in ‘In Essence’ are Louise Bodenheimer and Joni Hand from the Department of Art; Christopher Goeke, Robert Fruehwald and Lori Shaffer from the Department of Music; and Michelle Contrino, Josh Harvey, Jenna Lee Moore and Roxanne Wellington from The Conservatory of Theatre and Dance.
