“Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story” will have audiences rocking and rolling as part of Southeast Missouri State University 2017-2018 Bank of Missouri Touring Series at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 29 in the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall at Southeast’s River Campus.
“It’s really great to be able to bring this national touring show to Cape Girardeau,” said Bob Cerchio, assistant director of Southeast’s Earl and Margie Holland School of Visual and Performing Arts. “For those who lived through the late 1940s and early 1950s it should bring back great memories. For our younger audience members, it will be a great introduction to a magical era.”
The “World’s Most Successful Rock ‘n’ Roll Musical” tells the true story of Buddy Holly’s meteoric rise to fame in his short yet spectacular career, and features the classic songs “Peggy Sue,” “That’ll Be The Day,” “Not Fade Away,” “Oh Boy,” Ritchie Valen’s “La Bamba,” The Big Bopper’s “Chantilly Lace,” and many more.
Now in its 25th amazing year, and viewed by more than 20 million people with over 20,000 performances worldwide, “Buddy” opened in London’s West End in 1989, and has been seen on Broadway, throughout Canada and the world, winning numerous awards along the way.
The incredible legacy of the young man with glasses, whose musical career spanned an all-too-brief period during the golden days of rock and roll, continues to live on in “Buddy.”
