Dec. 1, 2009 – The S.H.O.W. (Southeast Health on Wheels) Mobile Program, a partnership between Southeast Missouri State University and Southeast Missouri Hospital, has forged new territory by offering dental services on the mobile healthcare unit.
Dr. Patty Merkley, D.D.S., of Jackson, Mo., provided dental services aboard the unit for the first time on Nov. 21 in Caruthersville, Mo., under the auspices of Southeast Missouri State University. The Caruthersville dental clinics will continue at the Oasis Center on the third Saturday of each month, with the next one scheduled for Dec. 19. Hours will be 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
“Our plan is for this program to continue for years to come,” said Sandy Ortiz, director of the S.H.O.W. Mobile program, adding that the University is currently seeking additional dentists to expand these services in other southeast Missouri communities.
The S.H.O.W. Mobile is providing dental services in Caruthersville, Mo., at the Oasis Center, 519 Ward Avenue, for the “Day of Hope” program. The cost for dental service is $20 for adults, $5 for children to be screened and another $5 if children require additional service.
