CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,
Sept. 17, 2004 – The Southeast Missouri State University Department of Communication and Department of English will host the second annual Freedom of Speech 5K Run and One-Mile Walk on Oct. 2 to celebrate citizens’ First Amendment rights.
Both events are open to the public and will start at 9:30 a.m., beginning at the Show Me Center south parking lot. A registration table will open at 8 a.m.
The pre-registration fee is $11.50, and the deadline to pre-register is Sept. 24. The registration fee is $15 the day of the race. All pre-registered participants will receive a free T-shirt. Children 12 and under are free and will get a free meal at Buffalo Wild Wings.
In addition to the walk, live music will be performed by Jennifer Noble. Between songs, organizers will present brief remarks about freedom of speech and its importance.
The run will be professionally videotaped. Afterwards, participants may watch themselves in action on the big screen in Buffalo Wild Wings’ new V.I.P. room. They may also enjoy 10 percent off all food and soft drink orders.
