Shvetha and Adam Gohn International Student Endowed Scholarship Established at Southeast

The Shvetha and Adam Gohn International Student Endowed Scholarship has been established through the Southeast Missouri University Foundation.

The Gohns, who are Cape Girardeau residents, made a $10,000 gift to establish the award.

The renewable scholarship will be awarded to an international student. First preference will be for an international student from India. Second preference will be given to an international student from Sri Lanka, Nepal, Pakistan or Bangladesh. Third preference will go to any international student with financial need. Fourth preference will be given to any first-generation college student with financial need. A minimum 3.5 grade point average is required, and the University Scholarship Committee will select the recipient.

The Gohns have a long track-record of involvement with and support for Southeast Missouri State University. Their philanthropic involvement with Southeast has been exemplary, having endowed several scholarships for Redhawk student athletes and international students. As members of President’s Council, they have established themselves among Southeast’s most passionate and consistent donors. In October 2018, they were honored with the Distinguished Young Alumni Service Award.

Adam graduated cum laude from Southeast in spring 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy and a minor in environmental science. While at Southeast, he was a member of the Jane Stephens Honors Program and Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society. He received his juris doctorate from Southern Illinois University in 2013 and has his own law practice that serves the southeast Missouri area. In 2018, he earned his MBA from the University of Kansas. He is actively engaged as a volunteer for University initiatives and serves as a member of the Redhawks Club Board of Directors and the KRCU Public Radio Development Committee. He is an underwriter for KRCU, and member of the Board of Directors of the Boys and Girls Club of Cape Girardeau, where he has worked extensively to raise funds for the organization.

Shvetha, originally from India, graduated from Southeast in 2009 with a Master of Business Administration in general management. She serves as the assistant director for international admissions in Southeast’s office of International Education and Services. Her passion for international students drives her daily work, and her past experiences as an international student offer perspective for incoming students. Additionally, she is a member of the KRCU Public Radio Community Advisory Board, helping the station plan and execute various events over the past several years.

The Gohns are members of the Redhawks Athletics Legends Club and the KRCU Circle. They encourage others in the community to give back to Southeast. Their involvement has encouraged many alumni and friends to give their time, talent and support to their alma mater.
