CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,
July 14, 2008 – Warren Skinner, assistant director for Career Linkages at Southeast Missouri State University, is one of three Missouri representatives to graduate from the Delta Regional Authority Leadership Program in Little Rock, Ark.
The Delta Leadership Institute, which is operated by the Delta Regional Authority (DRA), is designed to create a corps of leaders with a regional and national perspective. The Institute provides a year-long leadership development program for regional leaders desiring to prepare themselves to face the challenges of the 21st century. The purpose of the Delta Leadership Institute is to prepare these leaders to collaborate regionally to lead change.
“The DRA has provided a lot of rural economic development in our area, and it was a great opportunity for me to get involved,” Skinner said.
Many of the 252 counties and parishes that make up the Delta region are characterized by high poverty, high unemployment levels, low educational attainment, loss of skilled labor and a general lack of hope. Often marked by a lack of investment in leadership development and strategic planning, these areas have a lack of direction and a void in leadership. The Delta Leadership Institute is designed to improve the decisions made by leaders across the region.
