Small Business Development Training Coming To Cape Girardeau

Do you know what you need to do to get started?  Do you want to become a part of an elite group of entrepreneurs who are realizing their dream of small business ownership.  Do you have an idea that you want to “jumpstart” or maybe give your current business a boost?  If so, you should plan on attend the upcoming trainings being offered at the Institute for Regional Innovation and Entrepreneurship beginning this month.

How to Start a New Business will be offered on Wednesday, Oct. 22, from 9 a.m. – noon.  During this three-hour training, participants will be given an overview of the critical first steps associated with starting a business. The instructor will help you assess your strengths and weaknesses in terms of business ownership. Legal and regulatory requirements will be discussed, and sources of financing will also be identified.  Cost for this training will be $40. Registration deadline is Oct. 20.

To further help you realize your dream, Operation JumpStart (OJS), a nationally-recognized, highly-successful training model, designed for individuals who are considering starting or expanding a small business will begin on Monday, Oct. 27, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. The class will meet every Monday for four weeks.  Participants will learn such skills as product pricing, legal structure, competition, marketing and cash flow management with a goal of developing a feasibility plan to start or expand their business.  In addition, participants will receive one-on-one business counseling with a professional business development consultant from the Small Business and Technology Development Center.  The OJS program has been instrumental in assisting more than 700 individuals who have started or expanded more than 250 small businesses in southeast Missouri and elsewhere.  Your business could be next.  Cost for this training will be $99.  Registration deadline is Oct. 24

For the third training, How to Write a Business Plan, participants will learn the key elements that are required for a successful business plan.  Topics will include: define the business concept, learn the necessary components of the formal plan, understand how to research the feasibility and assess the industry, market and competition.  Participants will also develop basic financial projections from marketing analysis.  This training will meet on Wednesday, Dec. 3, from 9 a.m.-noon. Cost for this training will be $40. Registration deadline is Dec. 1.
