Southeast Agribusiness Major Awarded Florida State League Scholarship

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Sept. 8, 2015 – Southeast Missouri State University student Ethan Jones of Sullivan, Missouri, was recently awarded an educational scholarship from the Florida State League Scholarship Committee.

Jones, an agribusiness major, was a member of the Roger Dean Stadium Grounds Crew during the Jupiter Hammerheads 2015 season. The Jupiter Hammerheads are a minor league baseball team based in Jupiter, Florida, named for the hammerhead shark.

The Florida State League Scholarship Committee awards 12 scholarships with one going to an applicant from each team in the league. The award is based both on financial need and a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Students eligible for this award must be an employee of, or the child or grandchild of an employee of the participating club and must be at least a high school junior by the 2015 Fall Term.

The Miami Marlins have sponsored this program for 16 years and have contributed a total of $160,500.

Jones was awarded $1,500.

“I am very proud of all the hard work the teams do with all the teams participating, and I congratulate all of the winners,” said Ken Carson, Florida State League president. “I want to thank the Miami Marlins for their continued support of this great program. They are a great partner.”

Jones and his fellow scholarship recipients were guests of the Miami Marlins in a pre-game ceremony Aug. 23.
