Southeast Alumni Association Planning 2017 Guided Tours of Canyon Country, Tuscany


CanyonCountryInformational meetings are planned in August for those interested in joining the Southeast Missouri State University Alumni Association on tours of Canyon Country and Tuscany in 2017.

A travel show is scheduled for 7 p.m. Aug. 15 in the Aleen Vogel Wehking Alumni Center to preview the Canyon Country trip, followed by a presentation at 7:30 p.m. to outline the Tuscany tour. Online presentations are scheduled for 10 a.m. Aug. 23 on the Canyon Country trip and 10 a.m. Aug. 24 on the Tuscany tour.

A journey through Canyon Country, slated for April 20-28, 2017, will take participants into a colorful world of stunning southwestern vistas and the unique topography of three national parks: Zion, Bryce and the Grand Canyon. Visitors will delve into the region’s Native American history during a chat with a local tribe member, will shop in Sedona’s marketplace and travel through Kaibab National Forest. The group will spend a night on the South Rim of the Magnificent Grand Canyon and two nights at the luxurious Lake Powell Resort. Participants may personalize their tour by choosing to take in either the stark beauty of Monument Valley on a narrated jeep ride or take a cruise through the canyons for a different perspective on the spectacular scenery. The venture will conclude with a stop in the neon-lit spectacle of Las Vegas. A detailed itinerary and video presentation are available online.

sangimignanovineyardsThe Tuscany expedition is slated for Nov. 2-10, 2017. It will take participants through the rolling hills home to sprawling vineyards, charming medieval hill towns and enchanting cities steeped in history, culture and legend. This relaxing sojourn into the Italian countryside will offer travelers opportunities to visit Florence, Siena, Pisa and San Gimignano, and savor a seven-night stay in Montecatini Terme, the famous resort and spa town. Free time will be available to explore the cultural treasures of Florence, including Michelangelo’s “David.” Participants will discover the charming town of Lucca, Italy’s best-kept secret, learn about the heroic deeds of World War II at remains of the Gothic Line, visit the Museum of Liberation, and enjoy fabulous local wines and the region’s famous cuisine.
