CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Nov. 4, 2013 – Man and Woman of the Year, parade float and overall winners at Southeast Missouri State University’s Homecoming 2013 celebration have been announced.
Man and Woman of the Year winners were Benny Dorris of West Frankfort, Ill., and Lacey Balsmann of Jackson, Mo. Runners-up were Craig Robinson of Hayti, Mo., and Mollie Laramore of Chester, Ill.
Dorris is a senior public relations major from West Frankfort, Ill. He is the Student Government president and has also served as chief of staff. Dorris was nominated by Lambda Chi Alpha. He is a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, Order of Omega and Presidential Ambassadors, and is a Student Ambassador.
Balsmann is a senior at Southeast. She plans to graduate with a biomedical science or pre-medicine major while minoring in chemistry. She is an active member and leader in her sorority, Tri Delta. She is also involved in many honor societies, such as Tri Beta and Omicron Delta Kappa.
Parade float winners in Division I were Pi Kappa Alpha and Gamma Sigma Sigma, first place; Lambda Chi Alpha, Delta Delta Delta and Theta Xi, second place; and Gamma Phi Beta and Sigma Chi, third place.
Parade float winners in Division II were Phi Beta Lambda and Alpha Kappa Psi, first place; Alpha Phi Omega, second place; Chinese Student Scholar Association, third place. Overall Homecoming winners in Division I were Lambda Chi Alpha, Delta Delta Delta and Theta Xi, first place; Pi Kappa Alpha and Gamma Sigma Sigma, second place; and Gamma Phi Beta and Sigma Chi, third place.
Overall Homecoming winners in Division II were Phi Beta Lambda and Alpha Kappa Psi, first place; Student Activities Council and Residence Hall Association, second place; and Alpha Phi Omega, third place.
Floats are designed and built by Greek fraternities and sororities, student organizations and several community organizations. There were more than 115 entries in the Homecoming parade this year. Each organization in the competition decorated their floats according to a different decade in Southeast’s history and adhered to the theme of “Honoring Tradition, Inspiring Success.”
