Southeast Announces New Director for Child Care Resource and Referral


CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Jan. 28, 2005 — Southeast Missouri State University has named Kristen Foltz-Schlegel as program director for Child Care Resource & Referral (CCR&R)/Workshop On Wheels and First Steps System Point of Entry.

Foltz-Schlegel has been with Child Care Resource & Referral for five years as assistant director for Training and Professional Development. Before coming to CCR&R, she spent eight years as faculty with Kansas State University Research and Extension.

Foltz-Schlegel accepted the position after former director, Charla Myers, accepted the southeast regional consultant position for the First Steps Early Intervention Program.

Replacing Foltz-Schlegel as assistant director of Training and Professional Development is Heather Fisher. Fisher has several years of experience in the early childhood education field and was the former Accreditation and Professional Development Specialist for Child Care Resource & Referral.

Foltz-Schlegel and Fisher will provide valuable leadership and experience as Child Care Resource & Referral continues to offer services that support and promote a high quality child care system for southeast Missouri.

Child Care Resource & Referral of Southeast Missouri provides free child care referral services to parents, offers child care in-service training and on-site visits for technical assistance and accreditation for child care providers and early education teachers, and provides child care supply and demand data for  the community. First Steps is Missouri’s early intervention system. The goal of First Steps is to help families make sure their infants and toddlers receive services now to help them in the future. Every family with a child age birth to three years with a disability or a developmental delay may be eligible to be served by the First Steps system.
