CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., July 26, 2006 – Southeast Missouri State University’s area higher education centers in Sikeston, Perryville, Kennett and Malden, Mo., along with Southeast’s programs at Three Rivers Community College at Poplar Bluff, Mo., will host orientation for off-campus students on Tuesday, Aug. 8. Two separate sessions will be offered from 1 to 3:30 p.m. and 6 to 8:30 p.m. at each of the locations.
Based at the Sikeston Center, the orientation will unite all of the locations using interactive television (ITV) technology. Topics covered will range from academic information on the University Studies Program, academic responsibilities and information on the Student Transitions Initiative. Other topics to be covered will include Student Financial Services, Career Linkages, Southeast Key and Portal, Kent Library and other information about services and resources the University has to offer. Students will be given an opportunity to ask questions after each session.
“We encourage students to attend orientation as they will receive important information to help them be successful students at Southeast,” says Theresa Belvin, assistant director of New Student Programs.
Marsha Blanchard, director of the Kennett Area Higher Education Center (KAHEC) says, “Students who attend will learn a lot about the services that are offered right here in Kennett. We had a lot of fun last year, and we’re expecting a good turnout this year. We encourage all new students to attend.”
Dr. Rick Hux, director of the Harry L. Crisp Bootheel Education Center (CBEC) in Malden, Mo., said, “We’re all very excited about the start of a new school term here at the Crisp Bootheel Education Center. Our preliminary numbers indicate that we will be up significantly in number of students this fall. A big part of that is due to an increase in the number of traditional freshmen students enrolling in the Center. We are all looking forward to another great year.”
Judy Buck, director of the Sikeston Area Higher Education Center, said, “We expect an increase in attendance for the ‘Southeast at Your Service’ orientation this year. This is a great opportunity for students to become familiar with the Center and the services provided to students by Southeast on-site, through telecommunications or on the Web. Students can complete the first two years of course requirements at the Center and some four-year degrees through programs and course offerings on-site and via the Web.”
“I definitely encourage all of our Southeast students to attend, especially new students transferring to Southeast from community colleges,” said Sally Werner, director of the Perryville Area Higher Education Center. “We want to assure them that they will have a smooth transition, and we encourage them to come and meet our friendly and helpful staff.”
