CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo,
July 16, 2009 – Southeast Missouri State University’s Bass Anglers finished 13th in the Under Armour College Bass National Championship last weekend on the Arkansas River near North Little Rock, Ark.
Sixty teams participated in the competition. Fishermen Taylor Gorton of Cape Girardeau and Mike Rains of Ellis Grove, Ill., completed the two-day tournament with a weigh-in of 9.48 pounds, just behind the University of Missouri, which weighed in with 10.13 pounds. The Southeast team finished just ahead of Arkansas with a two-day weigh-in of 9.39 pounds. North Carolina State won the event.
Gorton is a junior majoring in biology at Southeast with an option in wildlife and conservation biology. Rains is a senior majoring in industrial education.
The Bass Anglers sport club has seen success in their three-plus years of existence. The team has been nationally ranked for the past two years and has participated in several events already this year.
