Southeast Biology Students Put Their Suturing Skills to the Test

Southeast Missouri State University students recently got a hands-on glimpse of their medical potential at Career Services’ “Suture Your Future” event.

The Suture Clinic and Deployable Rapid Assembly Shelter (DRASH) Mobile Medical Unit Display were hosted by the U.S. Army Medical Recruiting Center from St. Louis, Missouri. The event allowed students interested in the medical field an opportunity to suture a wound and learn about medical procedures in the military.

During the event, students learned suturing techniques, methods for using medical instruments, as well as tricks and tips for situations they could encounter in a hospital, clinic or battle field.

U.S. Army Medical Recruiting Center also set up a DRASH in the median in front of Academic Hall to give students an opportunity to learn about tent hospitals and the treatment of wounded and injured in the field.
