CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Oct. 30, 2006 — The Southeast Missouri State University Brass Quintet will perform a chamber music recital at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 14 in the beautiful setting of Old St. Vincent’s Church in downtown Cape Girardeau.
Featured selections on this recital will be “Contrapunctus” by J.S. Bach, “Brass Quintet” by Arthur Frackenpohl, and the “Suite from the Monteregian Hills” by Morley Calvert.
“Audiences are really going to fall in love with these tunes,” says Marc Fulgham, the leader of the group and professor music at Southeast Missouri State University.
“The ‘Blues’ movement in the Frackenpohl is especially beautiful, as is the second movement of the Morley Calvert,” remarks Barry Bernhardt, the winner of the Southeast Faculty Merit Award for 2006 and associate professor music at Southeast.
This ensemble’s performances have been acclaimed all across the Bootheel of Missouri, from an oratorio performance in Kennett to performances for school groups in Farmington and Desloge, Mo. The group is made up of Southeast Department of Music faculty members Fulgham and Bernhardt on trumpet, and Robert Conger, Southeast assistant professor of music, on trombone. Also in the ensemble are Southeast alumnus Charles Kelley on tuba and current Southeast student Jon Beasley on horn.
Tickets are available through the Southeast Performing Arts Box Office in the lobby of Rose Theatre. Phone orders using Visa/Mastercard and Discover are accepted. Please call (573) 651-2265 to order. For further information, please contact Fulgham at (573) 651-2341.
