CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., June 24, 2013 – The 2013 Southeast Chamber Music Institute will hold two concerts featuring Chamber Institute faculty and students respectively July 9 and 13 in the Robert F. and Gertrude L. Shuck Music Recital Hall at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus.
Both concerts are free and open to the public.
The first concert will be a faculty chamber music recital at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9. Recital performers will include Southeast Missouri State University faculty members Brandon Christensen, Sara Edgerton, Patrick Rafferty, Gabrielle Baffoni, Jennifer Judd and the flute ensemble Calliope. Among the composers featured will be Stravinsky, Falla and John Corigliano, and there will be a premiere by Southeast composer Robert Fruehwald.
A second chamber music concert will be presented at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 13. The Institute’s student participants will present a wide variety of chamber ensemble repertoire including trios, quartets and music for chamber orchestra. The concert will showcase pieces students have rehearsed intensively during the week-long Institute.
The Southeast Chamber Music Institute is a summer program offering students from the age of 12 upwards the opportunity to work with Southeast music faculty in challenging and engaging chamber music settings. All course offerings and activities will take place at the River Campus of Southeast Missouri State University.
The two events will feature diverse and attractive chamber music in an intimate workshop setting.
