CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Jan. 20, 2011 — Philip Edgecombe and Hilary Peterson, Southeast Missouri State University faculty members, recently received an invitation to participate in Dance St. Louis’ “Spring to Dance” festival after submitting Edgecombe’s choreography, “Incandescence.”
The fourth annual festival, which takes place May 26-28 at the Touhill Performing Arts Center in St. Louis, will feature 30 different dance companies, including Edgecombe and Peterson’s pH eXchange Dance Theater. Their dance, “Incandescence,” will be performed at Lee Theatre Saturday, May 28.
“I think this is a great opportunity not only for Philip and I but also for our students!” Peterson said.
Auditions for eight female and two male roles in the contemporary dance piece take place at noon on Sunday, Jan. 30, in Memorial Hall on Southeast’s main campus.
Edgecombe created “Incandescence” in 2009, but pH eXchange Dance Theater did not submit the piece until July 2010. The dance, which uses unique lighting techniques manipulated by the dancers, was selected by a panel of professional dancers and critics. “Incandescence” was the third juried show Edgecombe had selected in 2010, while Peterson had two selected, which is the most in the history of the Southeast Department of Theatre and Dance.
