CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Jan. 14, 2005 — All prospective students and their parents are invited to attend “Show Me Day” Feb. 26 on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University.
“Show Me Day is an opportunity for all individuals interested in attending college to take a closer look at Southeast and check out the numerous options Southeast provides,” said Southeast Admissions Counselor Christy Mershon.
The day will begin with registration at 10 a.m. in the Show Me Center. Students are invited to browse through a Student Life Fair after they register from 10 to 10:30 a.m. The fair will allow prospective students to meet Southeast students and staff from areas such as Campus Ministries, Career Services, Dining Services, Greek Life, Learning Enrichment Center, Minority Student Programs, Residence Life and Student Support Services.
The day will officially begin at 10:30 a.m. with a brief presentation by Dr. Debbie Below, director of enrollment management and admissions, followed by an introduction of Southeast student leaders. Prospective students also will have an opportunity to meet Southeast’s new Redhawks mascot who will be making a special guest appearance.Following the presentation, an “Academic Fair” will take place in the Student Recreation Center, and will feature informational displays of the University’s various academic departments.
“Show Me Day gives students and their families a really great introduction to the Southeast campus community,” Mershon said. “Show Me Day introduces students and their parents to so many academic and social opportunities in which they can get involved. We are excited and thrilled about having them here to explore and experience our vibrant and growing campus community. We want them to get as much information as possible when they are here so they feel comfortable and can succeed when they choose Southeast.”
After participating in the Academic Fair, prospective students may attend presentations on financing their education and Residence Life. Show Me Day also includes the opportunity to dine during lunch in Towers Café.
“We understand that the quality of campus food is of the utmost importance to prospective students,” Mershon said.
“Southeast is fortunate enough to have an award-winning dining facility, and we want our guests to experience the quality and value offered to our students.”
Show Me Day is designed to give students a good look at the Southeast college experience. Students will be able to get information about the Southeast experience, from academic and career choice options to financial aid, residence life and student activities. Information will be available for students wishing to transfer to Southeast from another campus. Students also will have the opportunity to learn about internship and experiential learning opportunities associated with all majors at Southeast, and they may visit with students who have interned in various fields. Opportunities to tour the campus also will be available.
