Southeast Jazz Ensembles in Concert Feb. 8 at Buckner’s Brewpub


CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Feb. 5, 2008 –The Southeast Missouri State University Department of Music’s Studio Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Lab Band will perform a free concert at Buckner’s Brewpub from 8 to 11 p.m. on Friday evening, Feb. 8.  

These ensembles are led by Robert Conger, associate professor in the Department of Music.

The night will begin with a jazz combo made up of various band members including Jarred Harris (bass), Alex Bettinger (drums), and Zach Priester (guitar), and will feature a few jazz standards.  The Jazz Lab Band will continue the performance with several selections and some straight ahead jazz tunes featuring different members of the band including Chris Aarns (saxophone), Craig Began (trumpet), Jon Poston (guitar) and Rob Davis (sax). 

The Studio Jazz Ensemble will close out the evening.  This group is Southeast’s premier jazz band and is made up mostly of music majors from Southeast Missouri State University.  They will perform some swinging music, including “Festival,” “Moten Swing,” “Emily” and “No More Blues,” from their upcoming Jazz Festival concert scheduled for Feb. 15 in the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall.
