Southeast Launches Mu Xi Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi

May 3, 2010 – The Mu Xi Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi was officially installed April 24 at Southeast Missouri State University.

The Mu Xi Chapter at Southeast became the 288th chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, a worldwide honorary organization for financial information students and professionals affiliated with an AACSB-International or EQUIS accredited business program.

Thirty-eight founding members and four accounting faculty were initiated into the Mu Xi Chapter during the April 24 ceremony in the John and Betty Glenn Convocation Center at the River Campus.

“It’s exciting to have been one of the members to lay the foundation of this organization at Southeast.  I look forward to see how it will grow with time,” Luke Luckett, president of the Mu Xi Chapter at Southeast, said of the new chapter.

Beta Alpha Psi offers numerous networking opportunities to benefit students’ future careers and activities designed to supplement students’ education, said faculty advisor Becky Lohmann.

“The primary objective of Beta Alpha Psi is to encourage and give recognition to scholastic and professional excellence in the business information field,” Lohmann said.  “This includes promoting the study and practice of accounting, finance and information systems; providing opportunities for self-development, service and association among members and practicing professionals; and encouraging a sense of ethical, social and public responsibility.”

The Mu Xi chapter was established after filing a petition for installation two years ago. Two national board members, Chapter Advocate Scott Hobson and President-Elect Teresa Conover, attended the event and performed the ceremony.
