CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., April 28, 2014 – Three Southeast Missouri State University Marketing Club students were named finalists in the 2014 Collegiate DECA International Career Development Conference and Competition April 23-26 in Washington, D.C.
Nibesh Amatya of Bhaktapur, Nepal, was a top 10 finalist in the Banking and Financial Services competition, and Samantha Rupp of Florissant, Mo., was a finalist in the Fashion Merchandising competition. Rupp also was recognized for her outstanding role play performance in the Fashion Merchandising preliminary round.
Kyle Jacobsmeyer of Florissant, Mo., won first place in the Men’s Wearhouse First Impression Challenge.
Also participating were Jeremiah Hathorn of St. Louis and Thu Nguyen of St. Peters, Mo. The Southeast students competed in a field of more than 1,000 outstanding competitors from colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.
As part of its commitment to experiential learning, the Department of Management and Marketing in the Harrison College of Business has sponsored Collegiate DECA for several years. Each year the department sends numerous participants to the state and international DECA competitions. In the spring 2014 semester, membership has remained steady with just over 30 members, making the Southeast Collegiate DECA chapter among the largest in Missouri.
