Southeast MBA Program Offers New Health Administration Option

March 11, 2005 – The Harrison College of Business at Southeast Missouri State University has established a health administration option under its popular master of business administration (MBA) program. This exciting opportunity expands the number of options available to students to seven. In addition to health administration, students may explore general management, accounting, environmental management, industrial management, international business and financial management.

“The MBA program has historically responded to the needs of the region. In this case, the Harrison College of Business is acting on the requests of those hoping to advance their careers in the growing health industry,” said Dr. Kenneth Heischmidt, director of graduate programs in Southeast’s Harrison College of Business.

“The option is also suitable for individuals preparing to enter responsible management positions in the health services industry. The program provides a foundation of knowledge for managers and executives to be more effective.”

The community also will benefit from the new educational opportunity.

“Changing demographics and health advances that extend life have increased the demand for efficient, well-managed health services,” said Dr. Gerald McDougall, dean of the Harrison College of Business. “The development of the health administration option had the support and encouragement of Southeast Missouri Hospital, Saint Francis Medical Center, the regional chapter of the Medical Group Management Association, the Cape Girardeau Medical Society and numerous health services practitioners,” he added.

The master of business administration in health administration is a unique program for this area, according to McDougall. “There is no other school in the immediate area offering this type of program,” he noted.
