An MBA student at Southeast Missouri State University and an intern with the Northwestern Mutual Financial Network, recently attended the 2004 Financial Representative Internship Winter Camp at Northwestern Mutual’s Home Office in Milwaukee, Wis.
Brian Kohlberg of Sappington, Mo., is associated with Northwestern Mutual Financial Network, The Qualy Group in St. Louis and jointly works with the Hahs Agency in Cape Girardeau. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a major in finance from Southeast in 2002.
Winter Camp recognizes the top 75 college interns from September to December of last year. The all-expense paid trip to Milwaukee included sessions on motivation, inspiration, and personal and professional development. Kohlberg also received special recognition from Executive Vice President of Agencies Bill Beckley.
Guest speakers at the event included, Samer Hamadeh, co-founder of Vault Reports and co-author of America’s Top Internships, as well as a panel of former interns. Panelists included interns from the past 35 years who have turned their early internship experiences into a life-long career with Northwestern Mutual Financial Network.
“I found the winter camp enriching and very motivating,” Kohlberg said. “To see so many interns with such talent and enthusiasm was great. This Winter Camp experience further confirmed my decision to go full time with Northwestern Mutual after my graduation in May.”
Kohlberg, who began interning with The Network in summer 2002 in St. Louis, works frequently out of an office at 1307 N. Mt. Auburn Rd, Cape Girardeau, MO 63701, with the Ron Hahs District Agency. He is a part of a network of specialists that offer a wide array of products and expert guidance and innovative solutions for a variety of financial needs and goals.
“Brian Kohlberg is one of the most extremely well rounded young gentlemen in the entire graduate student body at Southeast Missouri State University,” said Dr. Ken Heischmidt, director of Graduate Business Programs at Southeast. “He is a top student in character, leadership and academic capability. This year, Northwestern Mutual will contract more than 1,000 students nationwide. The internship program is open to full-time undergraduate and graduate students, and the interns work on a commission basis. They attend weekly courses that focus on Northwestern Mutual’s philosophy and receive basic instruction in life and disability income underwriting.
Since 1996, Northwestern Mutual’s Financial Representative Internship program has been named among the nation’s top 10 internships by The Princeton Review’s America’s Top Internships. The company shares the honor with other nationally recognized organizations including CNN, Hewlett Packard and the U.S. Supreme Court.
