CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Oct. 3, 2003 –The Southeast Missouri Symphony Orchestra will open its 2003-2004 Commerce Bank Subscription Series Oct. 21 with a presentation of “Family Favorites,” designed to entice the entire family to the symphony.
The concert is scheduled for 8 p.m. in Academic Auditorium.
Cape Central High School senior Bonan Wang, winner of the Louisiana Music Teacher’s Association’s Outstanding Musicianship Award in 2000 and the Missouri Music Teacher’s Association’s Grade 11 Piano Solo Auditions in 2002, will perform Beethoven’s exuberant and youthful “Piano Concerto No. 1.” She is sure to be an inspiration to both the young and “young at heart” as she exemplifies excellence from behind the piano.
Also featured will be the young string students from the Southeast Missouri Music Academy’s Suzuki program, demonstrating that one is never too young to begin training in the classics. The orchestra will perform a world premiere by Robert Fruehwald, specially composed for this once-in-a-lifetime concert, and Brandon Christensen will play solo violin in the “Danse Macabre,” sure to get everyone into the mood for Halloween.
Special discounted children’s admission for this concert is offered at $4 per seat (under 18 only). Adult tickets are $12 for preferred seating and $7 for general admission. Please call the Performing Arts Box Office at (573) 651-2265 for reservations.
