Southeast Missouri Symphony Orchestra to Present ‘Symphony Sampler,’ China Tour Reception


CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Sept. 2, 2009 – The Southeast Missouri Symphony Orchestra will present a short program of music entitled “Symphony Sampler” on Sunday, Sept. 20, at 2 p.m. in the Robert F. and Gertrude L. Shuck Recital Hall on the River Campus of Southeast Missouri State University. 

Immediately following the short concert will be a Post-China Tour Reception in the Glenn Convocation Center.  Both events are presented as part of Southeast’s Family Weekend activities.

The concert in the Shuck Recital Hall will be a short, informative, and light-hearted introduction to the symphony orchestra.  It will feature several excerpts from the symphony’s upcoming 2009-2010 symphony series at the River Campus.  Music by Mozart, Dvorak, Vivaldi and other composers will be performed.  Patrons will have the opportunity to preview the season ahead and to purchase individual or season tickets for any upcoming symphony concerts.The reception in the Glenn Convocation Center will follow at approximately 2:45 p.m.  There will be displays relating to the orchestra’s China Tour this past summer, as well as a short presentation by several of the orchestra members who toured with the symphony.  The public can meet and speak with a number of orchestra members who traveled to China.  Light refreshments will be available at the reception, which is sponsored by the Southeast Missouri Symphony Orchestra Advisory Board.
