Southeast Music Academy Announces Popular ‘Standing Ovation’ Concert Oct. 9


CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Sept. 26, 2005 — The Southeast Missouri Music Academy presents its ninth annual “Standing Ovation” benefit concert at 5 p.m. Oct. 9 in Old St. Vincent’s Church.

This year’s concert features University and Academy faculty members Shane Mizicko (percussion), Gary Miller (organ) and Gabriel Deutsch (classical guitar). Outstanding Academy students featured this year will be Nicholas Summary (voice), Stephen Ansberry (violin), Amy Dai (piano), James Thompson and Meredith Busch (flute and harp duet).

Special guests include the Southeast Missouri Flute Choir, the Suzuki Program Advanced Group and the University’s chamber choir, Cantus Choralis. The concert will premiere two pieces written by Academy students: “Dream Island” composed by 10-year-old violinist Nathan Fridley, and “Winter Gloom” composed by 9-year-old pianist Abby Ritter.
