Three Southeast music students, Josey Paar, Luke McFall and Levi Smith, recently accompanied Dr. Joseph Jefferson, assistant professor of trombone/euphonium and director of Southeast’s Jazz Studies, to the International Trombone Festival in Muncie, Indiana. They met prominent performers and attended clinics and performances that motivated and inspired their development as musicians.
Additionally, Jefferson presented his research, “Sacred African Music – Shout Band Tradition” and performed in the 2019 William Cramer Choir at the Festival.
Jefferson is the recipient of a 2019 Summer Research/Creative Activity Grant from the Provost’s Office, focusing on internationally diversifying trombone pedagogy. He has completed a teaching residency at Mahidol University’s College of Music in Bangkok, Thailand.
