Southeast Selected as New NEA Academy Partner

neaLogoCAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Aug. 11, 2014 – Southeast Missouri State University has been selected as a new partner of the NEA Academy, an alliance that will allow members of the National Education Association (NEA) to enroll in Southeast’s online graduate education courses at a discounted fee.

Southeast was chosen after NEA conducted a national search and a lengthy review process for new higher education partners.

“Southeast is one of three new NEA Academy partners,” said Lisa Guzman, NEA Academy Field Marketing Specialist. “The NEA Academy chooses its partners based on their ability to offer education degree programs nationally in an entirely online environment.” Guzman added.  “Partnering institutions provide quality professional development opportunities online for educators seeking advanced degrees and certification.”

Under the partnership, students enrolling in online graduate programs in the College of Education will pay the in-state tuition rate with a five percent discount. Southeast programs included in the partnership include the Master of Arts in elementary education, Master of Arts in exceptional child education, graduate certificate in autism, and the Master of Arts in secondary education, educational technology.

“NEA was looking for graduate programs with national accreditation and a consistent history of providing online education,” said Dr. Diana Rogers-Adkinson, dean of Southeast’s College of Education. “We are excited that we can provide quality, cost-effective graduate education to educators at the state, national and international level.”

The process to become an NEA partner began a year ago when Southeast responded to a national request for proposals. Southeast joins Western Governors University, Northcentral University in Arizona, Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh and Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho, as NEA Academy partners.

The National Education Association is the nation’s largest professional employee organization, representing 3 million elementary and secondary teachers, higher education faculty, education support professionals, school administrators, retired educators and students preparing to become teachers. The NEA Academy is the professional learning group developed to support educators with the highest quality online programs and is dedicated to meeting the professional needs of teachers and education support professionals.
