CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Feb. 28, 2013 – Brandon Hicks, an accounting major at Southeast Missouri State University, has been named the Missouri Society of CPAs Student of the Month for January 2013.
Hicks of Sikeston, Mo., was nominated for Student of the Month by Southeast faculty represented by Rebecca Lohmann, instructor of accounting.
“Brandon has taken the initiative to excel in his activities both in and out of the classroom,” she said.
While at Southeast, Hicks has been involved in several activities. He is currently vice president and previously served as recording secretary and service chair of Beta Alpha Psi, and is a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Beta Gamma Sigma, the Jane Stephen’s Honors Program and the Dean’s Student Advisory Council, representing the Department of Accounting since the fall of 2012. He is also a Kaplan CPA Review campus representative, AICPA student affiliate and Missouri Society of CPAs student member. He has been on the Dean’s List all semesters at Southeast and is the recipient of the Governor’s Scholarship, Access Missouri Scholarship and Bright Flight Scholarship. He also has been employed as a student assistant in Southeast’s Department of Human Environmental Studies.
“He has maintained a major GPA of 4.0 while working and being involved in the Beta Alpha Psi and other activities,” Lohmann said. “Brandon has the drive it takes to do well in the classroom and make the transition into his career successfully. For these reasons, the faculty believes he is an excellent student of the month candidate and a great representative of Southeast.”
Hicks is currently participating in a tax internship with Bucher, Essner and Miles, LLC in Sikeston. He expects to graduate with his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in May and complete the 150 hours required to sit for the CPA exam in May 2015. He is a graduate of Thomas W. Kelly High School.
