Southeast Student Directs ‘The Heidi Chronicles’ at River Campus

April 8, 2010 – The Department of Theatre and Dance at Southeast Missouri State University is scheduled to present “The Heidi Chronicles” at 7:30 p.m. April 22-24 and 2 p.m. April 25 in the Wendy Kurka Rust Flexible Theatre.

“The Heidi Chronicles” is a Pulitzer Prize winning play by Wendy Wasserstein.

Christina Vitale, Southeast student director of this production, said, “This play follows the journey of Heidi Holland through the years of 1965 to 1989.  It examines not only Heidi’s struggles through the height of the feminist movement, but the struggles of her generation as well.”

The play is comedic and thought-provoking as it explores the relationships women have with society, men and other women.  This play does include adult language.

Vitale, a junior speech and theatre education major, was selected to direct this production after completing two directing classes and being assistant director for three other productions at Southeast.   “There isn’t really anything about the directing process that doesn’t excite me,” explained Vitale.  “I am excited most about just having the opportunity to direct this piece.  I have fallen in love with it.”

“‘The Heidi Chronicles’ is a story with much to offer every generation,” according to Vitale.
