Southeast Student’s ‘Stories Untold’ Featured in Catapult’s Artist of the Month Exhibit

“Stories Untold” will be this year’s second Student Artist of the Month exhibit at Southeast Missouri State University’s Catapult Creative House.

The exhibition, currently on display on the second floor of Catapult, features the work of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, native Ryan Nevill, a senior at Southeast pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in printmaking. The exhibition will remain on display through September with a closing reception scheduled for 5-9 p.m. Oct. 4. Catapult Creative House is located at 612 Broadway in downtown Cape Girardeau.

Many literary works have an underlying backstory or lesson behind their text. In “Untold Stories,” Nevill’s art has an underlying story within the ink. The exhibit contains pieces that individually express a personal and untold narrative.

“The pieces in this exhibition create an environment in which the viewer can reflect upon their own life experiences,” said Nevill.

Through pairing personal narratives with imagery, Nevill creates a powerful totem through which one can cope and express emotion.

As a part of a program to promote community-based and integrated art making, a student artist is chosen to exhibit his or her work at Catapult Creative House’s Student Studio Gallery. These exhibitions showcase a range of work from individual artists that highlights their personal and professional artistic explorations as a part of the southeast Missouri art community. These artists explore the physicality of the human condition, its relationship to nature and the role of art in contemporary society. In addition to the exhibition, attendees are welcome to tour the studio spaces, view ongoing projects and engage with the artists.
