The Academy started this week and will continue June 11-15. Classes will be held at Southeast’s River Campus and in the Parker Dance Studio on Southeast’s main campus. Southeast faculty members and qualified senior level theatre and dance students will teach the classes, accompanied by a student assistant.

Morning classes to be offered June 11-15 include: “Acting” for kindergarten-2nd grade, “Beginning Dance” for 3rd-5th grades, “Musical Theatre” for 6th-8th grades and “Contemporary” for 9th-12th grades. Afternoon classes include: “Ballet” for kindergarten-2nd grade, “Musical Theatre” for 3rd-5th grades, “Jazz” for 6th-8th grades and “Acting” for 9th-12th grades.

Students at all levels will learn a wide range of techniques to further their interest in the performing arts and increase their appreciation of theatre and dance.

Dance instructor/choreographer Hilary Peterson said, “The academy benefits students by allowing them to study dance and theatre with professional Southeast faculty and current students. It is an opportunity to learn about theatre and dance in a fun and challenging summer environment.”

Each class will conduct a final performance for family members on the last day it meets.

Classes will meet for one week Monday through Friday. Cost for a one-hour a day class for five days is $100, a two-hour a day class for five days is $125 and a three-hour a day class for five days is $150.
